American Airlines Flight Collides with Helicopter in Washington, D.C.

It’s 9:15 in Washington, and we’ll be back in just a moment. Welcome back, you’re live with Fox. I’m Andrew Craft, and we’re following some breaking news about a concerning situation at Reagan National Airport here in the D.C. area. This is a live view from our Fox 5 skycam. According to DC Fire and EMS, a small aircraft has gone down near the Potomac River, close to the airport. Fire boats are already on the scene, and we’re working to confirm all the details. Take a look at the tweet from DC Fire for the latest updates.

The emergency response happening right now is massive. It’s about 9:18, and if you’re familiar with Reagan National, you know that parts of the tarmac are very close to the Potomac River. DC Fire has confirmed that the small aircraft is down near the river’s vicinity. Fire boats are deployed to assist, but we’re still trying to confirm if the crash occurred on the tarmac or directly in the Potomac River itself.

As of now, we know that fire boats are part of the response team, likely conducting rescue operations, but we’re still waiting on more precise details. We’re staying on top of this, so keep watching for the latest updates.

There’s also new information from Reagan National: a ground stop has been put in place. All takeoffs and landings are halted, though terminals remain open. We’re continuing to monitor the situation closely. As you can see from the live footage, there’s a heavy emergency response with a lot of flashing lights around the area.

As of now, we don’t know the type of aircraft involved, how many people were on board, or whether the plane was taking off or landing when the incident occurred. These are all questions that will be addressed as more details come in. But for now, all we know is that a small plane has crashed, and DC police confirm the crash happened in the Potomac River.

We’re also getting reports from DC police that multiple agencies are responding. The FAA and NTSB will likely begin investigations into what caused the crash, though we don’t want to speculate on any potential causes just yet. We’ll bring you more details as soon as they become available.

In the meantime, we’ve got a good vantage point from our Fox 5 skycam. You can see the massive emergency response taking place, and while we don’t have a clearer shot of the aircraft, we’re working to get more information as quickly as possible.

If you’re a passenger at Reagan right now, be aware that flights are grounded, though the terminal is still open. It’s clear this response will impact air traffic for a while.

We’re continuing to track this developing situation and will stay with it, bringing you live updates as we get them. Stay tuned.
